The short version
This website does not set any cookies of its own, and we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking. That is why you have not been asked to accept cookies.
Storage on your device
We use your browser's local storage, which works in a similar way to a cookie, for one thing: remembering that you have seen our email sign-up box, so we only show it to you once. It stores the date it was shown and nothing about who you are. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
During a visit we also note in your browser's session storage when you arrived, so the sign-up box appears once 30 seconds have passed, even if you move between pages. This is cleared when you close the tab.
Third-party content
Some pages load content from other services, which may use cookies or similar technologies under their own policies:
- Embedded videos. Journal posts may include videos from YouTube or Vimeo. YouTube videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which does not store cookies on your device until you play the video. Read Google's privacy policy and Vimeo's cookie policy.
- Google Fonts. The site's typeface is loaded from Google. This does not set cookies, but Google receives your IP address when your browser requests the font.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. If you clear local storage, you may see the sign-up box once more. The site works fully without them, although embedded videos may not play if you block third-party cookies.
